The Andrew Blee Quartet is an exciting new project led by saxophonist Andrew Blee. Andrew brings together his love of contemporary and smooth jazz to create an exciting mixture of covers from some of the World’s top musicians. Andrew attended Chichester College followed by a four year degree at Chichester University. In this time Andrew has played in everything from a simple jazz duo to big bands playing classic and modern day arrangements. Andrew is joined by three excellent musicians, Rich Carter (Drums), Rob Westwood (Keys), and Rowan Shulman (Bass). Picked especially for this project, this quartet bring the energy, soul and passion this music demands.
Andrew is an in-demand saxophonist, spending time playing with the Tom Belbin Trio (jazz trio), The Red Fez Orchestra (an 11 piece band playing music of the 1920s – 1930s), a new project The Boogie Bumpers (a 7 piece jump jive and swing band), and this project, The Andrew Blee Quartet. When not gigging Andrew spends his time teaching and running JazzSmart, educational music workshops bringing amateur musicians together with some of the UKs musicians and saxophonists.
You can expect from this performance contrast. Funky groove based tunes from Joshua Redman, original compositions from Troy Roberts, juxtaposed by haunting music from Bob Reynolds and timeless ballads from Pat Metheny and Abdullah Ibrahim. This choice of tunes reflects Andrew’s influences of music, a soulful, funky, gospel infused journey bonded together by the language of jazz.
